Remember when I published this post and told you about writing a sequel? Here it is, people!
“Some of the most famous ones that I have yet to try include Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Liquid Lipsticks, Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick and NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams. As soon as I get my hands some of these and tested them, this post will get a sequel…”
And those are exactly the 3 brands featured in today’s post. There’s a theme that slipped in unintentionally here, hot pink, but that just makes it even easier to compare the contenders. Let’s rumble!
I don’t need to write too much about Anastasia Beverly Hills‘ Liquid Lipstick in Rio, I have covered that one in this post about the brand. The formula is a true matte and to me the key is not applying too many layers.
The product is very opaque and you don’t need much, it’s when you (or maybe its just me?) start adding layers and correcting that can become streaky. No need for that, just try to use as few layers and strokes as possible for the best result. It stays put for a long time and doesn’t transfer. The range is huge (38 shades!) and very diverse. If only it was easier to get our hands on it over here… – £20,00 for 3.2 g
Up next is Kat Von D‘s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Backstage Bambi. These liquid lipsticks have gathered quite a cult following in a short time: Lolita and Bow ‘n Arrow go out of stock all the time.
When I was in Toronto, I got lucky with timing: Holiday Season was coming up and there was a set of Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Mini’s available! Mini’s: love, a variety of shades: love, not having to choose a single shade: love, limited edition: bingo, we have a winner!
I’ll probably mention some of the other shades in future posts but today I’ll stick to Backstage Bambi. In total I see about 30 shades in a wide range of colours on the website. The formula is lovely and sits between the other contenders in terms of “matteness”, it stayed on the longest/best and survived 2 meals so that’s a big plus! I like the shade, it’s more subdued on the lips than it looks in the tube. – £17,00 for 6.6 g
Third and final contender today is NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Pink Lust. You were expecting a Soft Matte Cream Lipstick there, huh? I have a few of those and I’ll probably write about those later (spoiler: meh…). But I quite like this formula, it’s not the most matte so if true mattes scare you: try this one. This also has some other consequences: it feels slightly tacky, it’s not the most opaque, it’s not as long-lasting (although it does fade away rather than disappearing completely) and it does transfer. You win some, you lose some.
The range consists of 24 shades and has some “out there” shades as well as more wearable ones. And that is where I have mixed feelings: Anastasia Beverly Hills and Kat Von D also have some blue, green and black shades that are for the bold and courageous among us but their selection of neutrals is much bigger and diverse than the NYX selection. So while the texture and formula of the NYX Liquid Suede Cream is more suitable for novice matte lips, the colour selection is bolder and more daring and I’m not sure that those who are not fans of the true matte are looking for that. – £7.00 for 4 g
3 very nice products at very different prices… But still I can’t declare one clear winner this time.
If you’re on a budget: no doubt, go for NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick, if you find the shade you want, that is…
If you are looking for a Vegan liquid lipstick: Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are all vegan, as opposed to the other brands where it depends on the shades.
If you’re looking for the most matte finish: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick.
If you’re not crazy about the true mattes: NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick.
I could go on on and on but you get the picture. They are far from identical but all great products. And although Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks are the most expensive of today’s selection, they make the most unique and beautiful shades in my opinion and Rio is my favourite shade of the 3, it truly pops.
By now, Urban Decay has released the Vice Liquid Lipstick collection and of course I want some of that action as well, so maybe part 3 some time in the future?
Thanks for reading and I hope I’ll see back here you next time!
